Iqaluit International Airport
Sector: Commercial
Location: Iqaluit, Nunavut
Design Team: Wheelwright Group
Structure: Services Building & Four Bay Fire Hall
Scope: 45,700 sq ft Consolidated Services Building and Four Bay Fire Hall for the Iqaluit International Airport
Project Overview
The Iqaluit International Airport project involved the design, fabrication, and delivery of a 45,700 square foot Consolidated Services Building and Four Bay Fire Hall in one of Canada’s most remote and demanding environments.
Wheelwright Group coordinated the full engineering and fabrication process before shipping the structure from Valleyfield, Québec to Iqaluit, Nunavut. Given the logistical challenges of northern construction, the project required precise scheduling, detailed pre-planning, and disciplined execution to ensure materials arrived and erection proceeded efficiently within limited seasonal windows.
From engineering through final assembly, the project demonstrates Wheelwright’s ability to manage complex builds in remote locations while maintaining structural integrity, coordination, and accountability at every stage.
